The Once Feared Empire has again Risen! This is...Khan's Mongolian Grill
When you find yourself more hungry than usual in East Stroudsburg, PA there is one option that sits atop the mountain of belly grumbles and endless hangry emotions, welcome to Khan’s Mongolian Grill. Khan’s sits in a shopping complex with ample parking and access to the building and could honestly be missed completely by passer-by’s if they did not know exactly what they were looking for. We are hoping no one passes Khan’s by…and you’ll soon see why.
Firstly, during these crazy times of Covid-19 and social distancing, for a “buffet style” establishment, Khan’s is on top of their game. First, they bring you a pair of gloves you must wear when going up to the islands to select your items. They also bring plates to your table as opposed to you getting them from the island so that you are not touching any plates you aren’t using. All staff is in masks and they require you wear one as well when away from your table and their grill cooks have numbered sections for you to place your plate so that they can attempt to keep you socially distanced at the grill as well.
So, the premise of Khan’s is that there is a gigantic round grill where there are a few cooks working and you go to the islands of the “buffet” and select raw items for them to cook for you. There is a healthy mix of proteins, vegetables, noodles, rice, sauces, and more that you can select from when mentally preparing a dish. Once you have selected these items you then bring them to a very large circular grill where a chef is waiting to prepare this meal for you. The trips to the grill are unlimited and you can make an insane amount of different combinations.
For my first plate I decided to select the following options for the chef to prepare: Shrimp, Pork, Chicken, mushrooms, scallions, bean sprouts, rice noodles, and their house special sauce. This sauce had a great flavor and added some nice zing and a little spice to the dish. Not spicy enough for me personally though (which you will see reflected in my second dish) but for any person who is not huge on spice, it was delicious. All of the proteins and vegetables were very fresh and cooked quite well. I was very impressed after my first plate.
For my second plate I decided to go with: Beef, Shrimp, Egg, carrot, broccoli, cabbage, garlic sauce, and hot chili oil. I went with no noodles or rice on this dish to cut down a little of the carbs (especially because I know there’s sugar in the garlic sauce) and the dish was just as good as the first one. The hot chili oil really made everything else pop and it was all just very refreshing, and I again cannot begin to explain my pleasure with how well the items were prepared.
Prior to deciding to dine at Khan’s on this day I was at a local market and thought of maybe grabbing myself some cocktail shrimp for lunch. It would have cost me $8 to get some shrimp that more than likely would have left me feeling hungry when I was done. At Khan’s for my appetizer, soup, two full plates of food, and diet soda I paid just over $11. No-brainer of the century.
The Mongolian Empire
We are so very eager to visit Khan’s once again when Covid is a thing of the past so there are no gloves, masks, etc. for sure. That is not to say that we would not go back during this period because they did a stand-up job of making sure everyone’s health and safety was at the forefront of the situation. We received solid service, an excellent hot and fresh cooked meal that was very very strong considering cost vs. value, and another place to tell others to visit. You know the drill…Khan’s Mongolian Grill - Didn't Suck!
